M: Please go online and find out the Alexa command to add the currently playing song to the list of favorites on Amazon Music.

G: While the song is currently playing on Amazon Music, say:

“Alexa, I like this song.”

Amazon’s own Alexa documentation specifically lists “Alexa, I like this song” as the positive-feedback command while music is playing. citeturn0search1

That’s the command you want rather than trying to say “add this to my favorites.”

M: Are you sure that's it? That seems kind of weirdly nonspecific.

G: You were right to question it. I checked more carefully, and my first answer blurred two different things.

Amazon's Alexa documentation says:

So I wouldn't confidently tell you that “I like this song” means “save this song to Favorites.” Your reaction that it sounded nonspecific was justified.

I'm going to dig specifically for Amazon Music's library/favorites-saving Alexa utterance, rather than the recommendation-feedback command.

M: Yes, do that. Find the verbal command to add the currently playing song on Alexa to the, well, to any playlist. I assumed that favorites would be the easiest one.

G: Yes. I found the actual playlist command, including confirmation from Amazon itself.

While the song is playing from Amazon Music, say:

“Alexa, add this song to my [playlist name] playlist.”

For example:

“Alexa, add this song to my Favorites playlist.”

Or, if you don't want to name one immediately:

“Alexa, add this song to my playlist.”

Alexa should then ask which playlist you mean.

Amazon explicitly documents both forms: “add this song to my playlist” and “add this to my ‘cooking’ playlist.” citeturn0search0 More importantly, there's a November 2025 Amazon support exchange where Amazon staff tested essentially this exact operation on an Echo and confirmed that adding the currently playing song to an existing playlist works. citeturn0search1

There's also a potentially useful shorter command:

“Alexa, add this song.”

That has historically meant add the current Amazon Music song to your music library, rather than a named playlist. citeturn0search39 I have less confidence that Amazon still maps that consistently to the modern My Likes/Favorites organization, though.

So for what you're trying to do, I'd use “Alexa, add this song to my [name] playlist.” That's much more explicit than “I like this song,” and it actually performs the library-management operation you were asking for.
