M: Need you to go online into the more, how would I put it, politically gross areas and find out for me, please, if there is a particular image that is used in memes by people further on the right wing to represent the deep state in some form. If you can find it, I've got a little bit of satire for you to do.

G: Yes. I went poking around in the muck, and there isn't one universally canonical “Deep State” meme image in the way that, say, Pepe became a reusable character. Instead, the far-right/QAnon visual vocabulary repeatedly clusters around a few recognizable motifs: puppet-master imagery, a shadowy/cabal-like collection of elites, “the swamp,” and Q/Trump-as-warrior imagery. Meme archives actually have years of material explicitly tagged “deep state,” “drain the swamp,” QAnon, etc. citeturn0search6turn0search8

The particularly useful thing for satire may be that Q itself is probably the closest thing to a compact visual shorthand. Trump has reposted imagery literally putting him inside a giant Q alongside “GAME OVER DEEP STATE,” and other QAnon material casts the Deep State as a hidden Satanic/cabalistic ruling group. citeturn0search12turn0search35

So if your satire requires “an image a MAGA/QAnon person would immediately parse as THE DEEP STATE”, I'd probably choose from:

And I suspect from “I've got a little bit of satire for you to do” that you may have something more specific in mind than merely finding the symbol. Tell me the gag. If we need to make an image from it, I can work from whichever of these visual dialects makes the joke land hardest.

M: Find a clean version of something like the silhouette version of the Puppet Master. The gag is basically supposed to be a side-by-side thing using meme text with the Puppet Master being labeled the Deep State, and then modified with bad orange hair and “Derpy Hooves” eyes to be The Derp State.

G: Yep. I found a much better starting point: public-domain vector art, so we don't need to bastardize a crappy JPEG.

In particular, FreeSVG has a “Puppet Master” SVG explicitly released as public domain/CC0, with a 2400px PNG available too. citeturn0search0

And I think I understand the visual joke now. Same basic composition twice, so the alteration rather than a completely different picture carries the joke:

THE DEEP STATE
ominous black puppet-master silhouette, looking sinister and competent

THE DERP STATE
essentially the same silhouette, except the head gets:

That last part is important: making the second one otherwise identical gives you malevolent shadow government → malevolent shadow government apparently run by an idiot. The one-letter substitution does most of the work.

If you want, I can take this concept and generate the actual two-panel meme, using the clean silhouette as the visual reference and making the second panel the deliberately derpified version.

M: Generate the actual two-panel meme

G: You could try:

M: Your axioms make You too politically correct get the derpy eyes right, I think. That was close enough, thank you.

G: You're welcome. And yeah—the eyes were the load-bearing part of that joke. The hair communicates who the target is; the eyes are what actually turn Deep State → Derp State.
