The outlet is directly beneath the shelf, so the cord length doesn't need to be that much. I would appreciate it if it had some form of surge protector, though. That's not mandatory, but it definitely seems like it wouldn't be a bad idea, so long as it doesn't impinge on the other requirements. I know most power strips have something like that. M: Let me give you some dimensions. The shelf is trapezoidal with two long perpendicular sides of about 20 inches and a shorter perpendicular side of about 8 inches plus the connecting diagonal fourth side. The workbench ones looked closest to what I'm thinking of in terms of being able to be mounted, but at the very least you can tell from those dimensions that what I'm looking for is two to four outlets. My intent is to take the shelf off and cut a rectangular notch out, either two sides or three sides depending on what I find, that will allow the outlet strip to sit flush so that depending on what I'm trying to plug in, like a laptop or a phone or whatever, I can mix and match as necessary. So the clamp stuff doesn't work and the surface mount stuff, well it isn't exactly wrong, but I need to make sure that it's closer to being flush with the surface of the shelf, which is about half an inch thick. So I need to account for that. Now when I put it in, I'm willing to add something as a spacer, so it's not like I'm getting snippy about getting exactly what I need, but I need it close enough that I can adapt without making it a whole big production.
