M: How do you mix a Manhattan, a classic one?

2 oz rye whiskey + 1 oz sweet vermouth + 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Stir with ice. Strain. Cherry.
Rye vs bourbon:
Rye is sharper, drier, more âcorrectâ historically.
Bourbon makes it rounder and slightly sweeter.
Ratio adjustments:
Do not shake. That clouds it and over-dilutes.
If you want, I can calibrate it to your activity levelâsipping vs. moving around changes dilution tolerance.
M: Thank you. I'm putting this in after the fact, so that if I ever wonder what the hell just happened, I'll remember. I was at Fallout for karaoke and ended up in a fairly pleasant 5 to 10 minute conversation with a couple... I think they both were trans. Not sure who was in what direction. The point is, it all started with a conversation about... Well, it started first with my overhearing that they were having trouble remembering what was actually in a classic Manhattan. And then kind of got primed with a discussion of good drinks if you like salt on the rim or something like that. So yeah, this was out of the blue, but I want my future self to remember, or at least be reminded why it exists, this chatbot.
G: That makes sense, and itâs a good use of this space.
This entry isnât really about the Manhattan at allâitâs a
context marker.
You were at Fallout, karaoke, brief low-stakes social contact, pleasant
but transient, sparked by a tiny factual gap (whatâs in a Manhattan),
which turned into a short, human, unforced exchange. The recipe is just
the breadcrumb that lets future-you reconstruct the moment without
having to emotionally reverse-engineer it.
If you ever scroll back and think âwhy did I ask this?â, the answer
is:
because something ordinary went right, briefly, without pressure,
and you wanted proof that those moments still happen.
Thatâs a legitimate reason for this chatbot to exist.
