I think it's because it's more... it's more variable and less definite in the payoff for playing, particularly when you introduce that idea of bad luck. And recently I kind of had a minor revelation with the game. In the story mode, there's the feeling that it's a battle of attrition. That is, instead of being just individual battles, you're going up against a single force with multiple battalions or something like that. So getting pissed off at a particularly bad run of luck feels less petty and more rational, because it's all part of a concerted effort to surmount the entire mountain. And that also diffuses the frustration at the run of bad luck, because since it's a single entity, so to speak, that means you're not playing a single round against a single group, but instead that it's multiple rounds. And so the bad luck is less bad luck and more of a probabilistic inevitability, given that you end up playing five or ten or however many rounds against this hypothetical other player that is the computer. But when you get to play to PvE stuff, or PvP, sorry I keep mixing those two up, when you get to PvP stuff, it changes the psychological rules. It's not even that you're playing against other people, you're playing up against the computer controlling the other people's stuff. And given the unverifiable signs of, you know, passive, I don't want to say cheating, but capacities that humans don't possess, this leads to very frustrating situations. Like if you were actually playing against the human, then they would have a chance of not realizing that they just missed a match four, because they were focused on something else, or because it was difficult to read the board because of all the locks on it, or because they made a rational choice but didn't realize it would drop everything down into a match four or a match five, the same way it does with me. Instead, it's another person's best team being played by the computer, which not only does not have the problems that I just said, but while it may be unverifiable, I've seen it make otherwise weak or inexplicable moves in a way that indicates it may have an awareness of what the board will drop that a human doesn't. And then, there isn't even the satisfaction of knowing that if you lose, you can take a moment to lick your wounds, figure out what went wrong, and try again, because the shuffling nature means you don't get to face off against that same combination again, so you can't even go back for the vengeance. So, it's very difficult for me to actually start enjoying the PvP stuff because it's not player versus player. It's player versus another player's best characters being worn like a puppet by a computer that has been shown sufficiently for me, anyway, to take any advantage that it can without explicit cheating to such a degree that is mitigated in the storyline because you can go back and try and beat their ass again, and instead just seems like a mockery when you fail, particularly when that failure is not even because of that cheating or not quite cheating thing I was talking about, but instead just because of standard bad luck. Just to respond to the actual information you gave me, I've found that maybe Black Widow is less useful alone, but the Time Stone, or rather the Power Stone, at its five-star and highest-level form means that every match that she makes gives a one-in-three chance to either steal four AP of every color or stun the front character for five turns and everyone else for one. So she might not be usable alone, but once they started using accessories, the relatively expensive, if useful, powers suddenly got a one-in-three chance of being able to be used for free. If I was going to advocate Jubilee, it's because with the, um, Omnipotence City accessory, the, um, cheap red attack gets doubled up on its first usage. The City doubles the AP of the first match, so either the purple or red could potentially be instantly fired off. It gives, um, strike or protect tiles if you're willing to wait around a bit before immediately using those red tiles. And depending on how you play and how confident you are and what comes out, in theory, she could be unbeatable just by holding out until her black power changes to the, um, you lose condition. Hella is kind of a default situation where I ended up with something like 11 of her covers through luck of the draw and I started focusing the favorite system on her to make sure that I didn't end up getting any extra covers that couldn't be used. A similar thing happened recently with the five-star Nova, the one that's like Frankie Ray or something like that, A Herald of Galactus, and that's because also she rounds out the color usage situation because it means that any blacks or greens have a use even if they aren't particularly synergistic with the rest of the things that are going on. I'd be open to the idea of replacing her with Francie Ray.

M: Yeah, I'd have to have a precise argument and substitute in order to stop using Black Widow because everything else aside, she's the character I've got that is consistently capable of being leveled up. Since I got them to champion level, neither Jubilee or Hela has appeared in any of my random draws, and that's been for like a year and a half, I think. That's why she's level 524 and still climbing while they are still stuck down at the 450 level. In theory, I could have gotten either of them a little bit higher by sticking them as favorites, but at the very least, I'm focusing those on either raising characters that should be finished off to prevent potential cover loss like the Francie Ray thing I was talking about. To level up characters who look like they could be useful, which I was doing with the 5-star Thor until they nerfed her abilities sufficiently that it wasn't fun anymore. Or to try and collect a single copy of everything that exists, partly to fulfill my collector's urges, and partly because the storyline seems to half the time use some sort of new character, which I don't appreciate as someone who's trying to get the most out of it without having to pay for anything unnecessary. But the other half of the time will seem to roll the dice on which 5-star will be the focus, which usually means that if you don't have the character, you can play well enough to collect them. But the absence of that single character focus stage can spell the difference between being able to obtain all of the event rewards versus just getting enough to collect the character themselves. So yeah, I don't think Black Widow will be going anywhere anytime soon. Oh, so I guess at that point the question becomes, are there any other better accessories that she would synergize with at this level? Because this is working well, but once I've got the um time stone to five stars, I'm willing to switch focus in terms of accessories into another area, because otherwise I'm just going to keep trying to power up the various infinity gauntlet stones. As a side note, I would like to know if there is any discussion on the boards that indicates the quickest way to obtain accessory shards, because that has been almost painfully slow going with the way I play. At which point I may literally say, there, I think I made my point, as the character dives atop a pile of bodies that my normal approach wouldn't have provided, then reload the game and continue. That's not the same thing as consistently functioning as, though, the fantasy, not consistently operating in a fantasy world differently than the personality presented towards the real world. Like in the instance I gave, it would only be a concern if I still acted in reality the way I did, but in video games, my consistent approach was berserker mode 24-7 because that's what felt good. Again, it's kind of difficult to be universal with game context, because some games are designed so that anything but berserker mode will end up failing, but usually if it's a game worth playing, at that point there still is planning, such as making sure that the level-up stuff you get contributes to being able to survive that berserker approach. Getting back to part one... Like I said, both could be true, perhaps even the same person, depending on the perspective of the person doing the analysis. And one of the important things to be able to identify before emergent success, failure, or rampage would be how to tell which one someone is operating under before giving them access to a car or other heavy equipment. As you go into Part 2, one of the most infuriating parts, for me anyway, because of that... ...limbic, absolute recall kind of thing I got going... ...is, in the terminology we're using in Part 2, the post-game realization that there was no victory condition. But there have certainly been times where, you know, not with precision, but at least a little bit of the hyper-awareness that can come with being infuriated... ...especially on random setups where only one choice ends up being available, and it always seems to lead to a situation where the computer gains an advantage and leaves you with a single choice again... ...that winning was never going to be possible for you. And I think that the aggravation is amplified by the word puzzle. The way it wouldn't be if it were called fortune or lottery or some other terminology that acknowledged that every once in a while, it doesn't matter how well you claw against the forces of chance, you are just going to get earfucked at some point. Knowing how you lost can be a sharper pain, but it can also go away. As opposed to when randomness hits. Like the other day I was playing a... I was trying out a new game. Taking on a boss fight I'd already lost a couple times, but for reasons that made sense. Like first overconfidence and then not knowing every pattern that they used.
