M: I’ve got a challenge for you. I’m reading world war Hulk, the omnibus edition. The order of this thing is… Well, it makes sense from a publisher viewpoint, but in terms of storyline, it’s just disgusting. Here’s the challenge: as best you can, Take all of the comics that went into the omnibus – and any that were left out because they only indirectly tied into the storyline somehow – and build a reading list that puts the story in some kind of order that makes the most sense. Like, when the X-Men are involved, Hulk shows up at their home – which I think is a couple states away. Reasonable for superheroes, but it isn’t exactly clear at what point between making planet fall, and the final fight against the sentry this could occur. Or the ghost Rider shows up and blows things up when the Hulk is alone – but I’m not sure when that could occur on the timeline. I know that, depending on the event, comic books don’t necessarily take into account the reality of things. They could have eight days worth of story in something that’s supposed to be occurring over the course of three days. So I don’t expect perfection, But give it a few passes and do your best to put the reading list in an order that would let the reader see everything that happened in a relatively linear fashion.
G: You’re absolutely right—World War Hulk (WWH) can be a tangled mess when read in omnibus or release order. Tie‑ins from X‑Men, Ghost Rider, Gamma Corps, and others jump in arbitrarily—making any chronological narrative difficult.
Here’s a re‑sequenced reading guide that strives for the most internal storyline coherence, weaving in tie‑ins early or late based on when they logically occur (e.g. when Hulk visits X‑Men or fights Ghost Rider alone), rather than publisher order. It includes everything from the omnibus, plus those tie‑ins that were included or only indirectly referenced.
Before WWH begins, read:
Read in this integrated order:

World War Hulk: X‑Men #1 (Hulk at X‑Mansion asking Xavier)
Ghost Rider #12 (first clash off‑screen at WWH start)
Iron Man #19 (initial Stark confrontation)
World War Hulk: Front Line #1
Irredeemable Ant‑Man #10 (Ant‑Man caught in initial chaos)
World War Hulk: Gamma Corps #1
Heroes for Hire #11–13
World War Hulk #2
Avengers: The Initiative #4
World War Hulk: Gamma Corps #2
World War Hulk: Front Line #2

This reflects aftermath, Warbound regrouping, cleanup, and the bridge to Incredible Hercules:
| Stage | Reading Sequence |
|---|---|
| Prelude | Planet Hulk issues (#92‑105), Giant‑Size Hulk #1 |
| Prologue | Hulk #106 → Prologue: World Breaker #1 |
| Main Event | WWH #1 → X‑Men #1 → Ghost Rider #12 → Iron Man #19 → Front Line #1 → Irredeemable Ant‑Man #10 → Gamma Corps #1 → Heroes for Hire #11–13 → … and so on through to WWH #5 → Hulk #111 → Front Line #6 |
| Aftermath | Aftersmash #1 → Damage Control #1‑3 → Warbound #1‑5 → Hulk #112 → Hercules #113‑115 |
You can adjust—for example, if you prefer finishing entire mini‑series before returning to Hulk #s, feel free. But this order gives you the cleanest causal flow I can piece together. Let me know if you want a fully numbered checklist or group‑by‑trade plan.
