• If you scratch while legally pocketing the 8-ball (on the same shot), you lose immediately.
• If you scratch but don’t pocket the 8-ball, your opponent gets ball in hand, but you don’t lose outright.
• If you pocket the 8-ball early (before clearing your group), you lose immediately.
